APA, MLA, and Turabian papers are required to be double-spaced throughout, so PERRLA formats them this way by default.
There may be times when text in your paper appears single-spaced. This typically happens when text is copied from a website or another document where it was single-spaced – that formatting (along with other unwanted formatting like font styles and sizes) gets pasted in along with the text.
This is a quick fix:
- Highlight the affected paragraph.
- Click Text & Heading Style in the PERRLA ribbon.
- Click Paragraph.
This will apply the correct APA, MLA, or Turabian formatting – including proper double-spacing – back to your paragraph.
To prevent this from happening, paste text as plain text rather than formatted text. This keeps unwanted formatting from overwriting your paper's styles and is a good habit when working with any document, not just PERRLA papers.
