This applies to PERRLA Online papers created before July 28, 2026. Papers created after that date show page breaks and page numbers as you write, so this article doesn't apply to them.
Page Breaks
Paper View shows the page breaks that occur between each section of your paper.
For the APA and Turabian formats, that means there are visible page breaks between the Title Page, Body, and References page. The MLA format only includes a page break between the Body and the Works Cited page.
Each of these sections is contained on its own "page." However, this version of the Editor can't show page breaks inside a section.
This means that although your paper's body may be three pages long, Paper View shows it all on one "page." The page breaks are inserted correctly when you export your paper.
Page Numbering
In Paper View, PERRLA calculates the final page numbers when your paper is exported. Instead of hiding page numbers completely, a placeholder ("#") appears in their place.
PERRLA replaces the placeholder with the correct page number when you export or download your paper.
