As part of our continued effort to make PERRLA the best tool for writing student papers, we're officially sunsetting several of our non-writing features in the coming months.
What's going away?
The following features will be retired:
- To-Do's
- Assignments
- Reminders
- Calendar Events
- Syllabus Tool
Starting May 27, 2025 (Memorial Day), you will no longer be able to create new items using these tools.
You'll still be able to view and interact with any existing content until the features are fully removed later this summer.
Why are we removing these features?
There are two big reasons:
- They're rarely used. These productivity tools account for less than 0.1% of PERRLA's total activity, but they consume a large amount of development time and resources.
- There are better tools already in your daily life. When we first introduced these features, our goal was to help students stay organized across all their classes. But it's clear that most students rely on tools they already know and love – like Google Calendar, Apple Reminders, or built-in LMS platforms – for managing deadlines and tasks.
We've heard from many of you over the years that what really matters is how well PERRLA helps you write your papers, manage your references, and stay focused on research. That's where we want to put 100% of our attention moving forward.
What happens to your existing productivity items?
Don't worry – your existing To-Do's, Assignments, Reminders, Calendar Events, and Syllabus content won't disappear right away. You'll still be able to:
- View and edit any existing content
- Complete or delete tasks as usual
- Access the Productivity pages through the app
Once the full removal takes place later this summer, these pages and their associated data will no longer be available.
Looking ahead
By retiring these tools, we're opening the door to big improvements in how you manage your papers, references, and research – the core of what PERRLA is all about.
