To create a stand-alone Annotated Bibliography, choose Annotated Bibliography under Create New Paper. By default, this paper type doesn't include a title page.
If your professor requires a title page, PERRLA for Word doesn't have a built-in function to add one instantly, but you can still include one.
There are two techniques you can use to add a title page to your Annotated Bibliography.
Note: These instructions are for the PERRLA for Word Add-in. If you're working in PERRLA Online, you can include a title page when creating your Annotated Bibliography.
Two Ways to Add a Title Page
Add a Page Break
The first technique is to add a page break at the beginning of the paper. This gives you a blank page before the Annotated Bibliography where you can manually type your title page information.
- Place your cursor to the immediate left of your title ("Annotated Bibliography" by default) at the top of the first page.
- Press the left arrow key on your keyboard.
- Click the Insert menu in Word.
- Choose Break from the menu.
- Click Page Break.
You'll now have a blank page at the beginning of the paper where you can manually include the title page information.
Start a Research Paper Instead
The second technique is to create a Research Paper instead of an Annotated Bibliography. You can then include annotations in the references and manually delete the body of the paper.
- Click Create New Paper in the PERRLA ribbon.
- Choose Research Paper.
- Fill in the information that will be used for your title page.
- Click Create Research Paper.
- Use the References & Citations button to add your references.
- In the right side panel, click the three dots to the right of a reference.
- Choose Add Annotation.
- Below the reference in the paper, you will now see the text Type Your Annotation Here.
- Type your annotation in place of that text.
- Repeat steps 6 through 9 for each reference.
Once you have added all of your references and annotations to the paper, you can remove the body, leaving only the references and title page. Be sure to do this as the last step, after all of your references and annotations have been added.
- Place your cursor to the immediate left of the title in the body section of the paper.
- Highlight the text in the body of the paper, including the title and the blank line below the last line of text.
You may need to hold the Shift key on your keyboard while pressing the right arrow key to highlight the section break. - Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
You're now left with the title page and the reference page or Annotated Bibliography.
If you need to change the "References" heading, you will right-click it and choose Remove Content Control. You can then manually edit the "References" heading to whatever you'd like.
