PERRLA Online lets you insert LaTeX-based equations directly into your paper, with a live preview as you type.
Note: Equations are only available in PERRLA Online papers created after July 28, 2026.
Adding an Equation
- Place your cursor where you want the equation to appear.
- Click Insert, then click Equation.
- Type your equation in LaTeX in the text box that appears in the side panel.
A live preview of your equation appears above the Insert Equation button as you type. - Choose Inline or Display for how you want the equation placed.
Inline keeps the equation within a sentence. Display places it on its own line. - Click Insert Equation.
APA 7
Choosing Display shows this note:
"PERRLA numbers displayed equations automatically, per APA style. Refer to this equation in your text by its full label — e.g. 'Equation 1', never 'Eq. 1'."
MLA 9 and Turabian 9
Choosing Display shows a Number this equation checkbox, along with this note:
"Number the equations you refer to in your text, and cite them as 'equation (1)'. PERRLA keeps the numbering consecutive for you."
Editing and Deleting an Equation
