If you're having problems with your reference page – such as a duplicate reference or multiple reference pages – PERRLA includes a way to refresh it.
Note: If you have appendices after your reference page, copy them into a separate Word document for safekeeping before starting. Once the reference page is refreshed, you can recreate the appendices and paste them back in.
Refreshing the Reference Page
- Go to Word's Home tab.
-
Click the Show Hidden Characters button.
This is the button showing a paragraph symbol (¶). Once clicked, all section breaks, page breaks, tabs, hard returns, and other hidden characters will be visible throughout the document. -
Highlight the entire reference page.
Include the page break between the last paragraph in the body and the reference page. Highlighting page breaks can be tricky – hold down the Shift key and press the Right Arrow key to highlight the page break if needed. -
Press the Delete or Backspace key.
This will delete the reference page from your paper. -
Open Settings in PERRLA.
See How to Access PERRLA Settings if you need help finding it. - Scroll down to Paper settings and click Refresh Reference Section.
Your reference page will now be refreshed and working correctly. If you removed your appendices before starting, paste them back in now.
