Things to Know
- Personal libraries only. The import reads your own Zotero library. Group libraries do not transfer, but you can export a group library from Zotero as a .bib file and upload that file directly to PERRLA.
- Stored files only. Files that Zotero stores directly, such as PDFs saved in Zotero storage, transfer correctly. Linked files and web page links cannot come over, since Zotero does not host them. You can upload linked files manually to the Files section of the corresponding reference in your PERRLA Reference Library.
- Your plan's storage limits apply. Files from Zotero count toward your storage, just like files you upload. If a file is larger than your plan allows, or does not fit in the storage you have left, PERRLA does not bring it over. Your references, notes, and annotations still come over in full. PERRLA shows how many files it could not bring over under Integrations in Settings, and you can upgrade to import them. After you upgrade, click Finish your Zotero import and PERRLA brings over the rest.
- Standalone notes are skipped. Zotero notes that are not attached to a reference do not import, since PERRLA's research notes live on a reference. Notes attached to references all come over.
- Miscellaneous reference types need confirmation. Zotero uses a catch-all Miscellaneous type for references that do not fit its standard categories. Since PERRLA supports every reference type, any Miscellaneous references are tagged Needs Review, and PERRLA will ask you to confirm the reference type so it can format it correctly.
Once your Zotero library is connected, your references work exactly like any other reference in PERRLA and can be inserted into a paper the same way.
