The Navigator appears to the left of your paper in PERRLA Online. It shows all the sections of your paper in one place, making it easy to see your paper's structure and add or rearrange sections as you need them.
Note: The Navigator is only available in PERRLA Online papers created after July 28, 2026.
What you'll see in the Navigator
When you open a PERRLA Online paper, the Navigator shows the sections currently in your paper – for example, the title page and body. If you've added references, a References section will appear there too.
Any headings you've added (Heading 1 through Heading 5) will appear in the Navigator as subsections nested under the body section, giving you a quick overview of your paper's structure as you write.
Adding sections to your paper
Click the + icon next to Navigator to add a new section. The new section will be inserted above wherever your cursor is currently placed in the paper and will also appear in the Navigator.
Sections are divided into two categories:
Paper Parts
- Abstract
- Table of Contents
- List of Tables
- List of Figures
- Appendix
- Appendix (Landscape)
Custom Sections
- Acknowledgments
- Dedication
- Disclaimer
- Signatures Page
- Blank Custom Section
- Blank Section (Landscape)
Rearranging and removing sections
You can reorder sections by clicking and dragging them up or down in the Navigator. You can also click the three dots next to any section to move it up or down, insert a new section after it, or delete it.
